Boss: "Tommy Played For Under-23s But Don't Read Anything Into It"

Welsh midfielder plays with youngsters at Millwall due to shortage of numbers after sickness bug.

Tommy Lowery completed 90 minutes for the club’s Under-23‘s during their 1-0 loss at Millwall yesterday, but David Artell revealed at Oxford United that it was purely down to numbers.

With the club struggling with a sickness bug in camp and the first team away at Oxford, Alex Morris was forced to name a very young Under-23 side. They did superbly to contain the young Lions, heartbreakingly conceding in the 93rd minute.

The first team had to name one substitute less and had to transport goalkeeper Sam Booth down to Oxford to replace Will Jaaskelainen on the bench.

David Artell told the club’s official website: “Tom played for the Under-23s but we needed him. It was needs must with what happened and I’ve always said that he won’t play for this football club until he signs his contract or when we need him, like we did yesterday.

“Nothing has changed. There has been no further dialogue and that is where we are.”
