Alex boss on preparations for the big kick off this weekend

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he is pleased with how pre-season has gone and cannot wait for the serious stuff to start against Cheltenham this weekend.

The Alex boss is always striving for improvement though and admits that there is ‘still work to be done’.

Ahead of the seasonal opener against Cheltenham, Artell told the club’s official website: “There is still work to be done and we are still working hard. That doesn’t chance after the season kicks off. There is always room for improvement and we always strive to get better.

“There is work to do and it is a continuous and consistent process. I know a lot is made of the first game because you have to wait longer for it, but it is not different to the 6th or 16th game for me.

“We have to prepare right and prepare the challenges that Cheltenham will give us. We have to use the work we have done over the summer wisely and use that in the best possible way to get a result at the weekend.

David added: “If you stagnate or think you have cracked it, someone will come and have your dinner, so you have to keep on progressing and become more consistent over the season.”
