Artell: "We Have To Get Back To What We Are Good At"

9 August 2021

David Artell says that he and his staff have analysed Saturday’s opening game of the season against Cheltenham Town and ‘that plenty of notes have been taken’.

The Alex were disappointed to have only collected a point at the Mornflake Stadium after a hit-and-miss display.

A defensive mistake let Cheltenham back into the game after Mika Mandron's fine finish for the opening goal.

There only looked like one winner in the final quarter of the game but the Alex didn’t create enough clear cut chances to have won the game. A point was fair and Artell has had the weekend to reflect.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I watched the game back and there were plenty of notes taken. There are areas to improve on and we have another opportunity to do that at Hartlepool tomorrow night.

“The games will come thick and fast and we know we have got to improve. We have to reinstate what we are good at and what we are about.

“We have to emphasise what has bought us success. We know they can do it, because they have done it before and it is up to us to get that out them.

“It is all about making progress and it will take a bit of time to develop those new partnerships and new relationships.

He added: “We kicked off the season without six or seven players that we started with last season, so it takes time.”
