Ryan Wintle missed the goalless draw against Portsmouth after picking up a slight niggle in the 6-0 home defeat by Oxford.

The midfielder is rated as doubtful for this weekend’s trip to Wigan Athletic but he still has two sessions to declare himself fit and available for selection.

David Artell revealed that Wintle would have retained his place against Portsmouth but reported a slight discomfort in the groin area and the club did not take any risks.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Ryan would have kept his place because he was okay on Saturday against Oxford. He was one of the better ones and would have played again but he had a slight niggle so wasn’t risked.”
