Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that the recruitment drive for next season has already started and he aims to be clever in the summer transfer market to make sure we improve for next season. The Railwaymen have enjoyed a successful return to League One football and haven’t had to worry about being dragged into a relegation scrap all season.
The Alex will be hoping to surpass the 60+ points mark with three games remaining and Artell says that with the lowest budget in the division, his side deserve credit for a successful campaign.
Artell explained to the club’s official website: “There is a transfer window nearly upon us, so we will do what we can to improve us for next season. We have got to find away because we cannot be that team to go and find a forward and pay him, four, five, six thousand pounds a week to make a massive difference to us.
“We are where we are. I know the reality and the facts and we have to work hard to find those players that could be available to us, and make a difference for us.
“The aim will be to improve and get better. If we can do that then hopefully that will bring more points.
He added: “We cannot go out and find that match winning individuals because we don’t have the budget to compete with the size of the clubs in this league, so we have to be a bit more shrewd with our money and get the best in we can find.”
