"When Called Upon Will Was Terrific For Us"

6 April 2021

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell praised the concentration levels of Will Jaaskelainen after the young Finnish goalkeeper made two fantastic saves from Brown and Darling late on yesterday to preserve the clean-sheet yesterday.

Jaaskelainen did not have too much to do at Stadium MK but produced notable saves when called upon. The former Bolton trainee also did really well to force Cameron Jerome just wide enough, so he could only turn and hit the post just minutes into the second half.

It was another hard working clean-sheet for the Alex and the boss was pleased that we withstood that late pressure to win the game 2-0.

He told us: “Will had to make some saves late on but it shouldn’t have got to that because I felt we dominated the game for 70 minutes and were in control.

“They threw caution to the wind in the last 15 minutes and threw more bodies forward and when he was called upon, Will made some really good saves. He did his job and he did it really well. He was terrific and the clean-sheet was well deserved.

“He is still only 22 but has played nearly 70 games. That is still at the baby stage for a goalkeeper because they can play until they are about 58! He is learning all the time and maybe it did him some good to have some time out of it and go back in.”
