Gaffer: "Pulling The Shirt On Is Motivation Enough"

boss warns against any sign of complacency in remaining three games

David Artell says there will be no room for complacency with three games to go. The Alex take on promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic this mid-week for our re-arranged fixture from back in late March. The original game was postponed for International call-ups.

With Crewe safely positioned in League One, the Alex boss says that his side will continue to give their all in the matches to protect the integrity of competition.

The Crewe boss told the club’s official web-site: “I don’t need to provide the motivation for the players. That is why the word ‘professional’ comes before footballer. It doesn’t matter if it is 3 games gone, 15 games, 30 or we have three games left, the players have to the motivation to do their jobs and represent the club.

“Pulling the shirt on and representing this football club should be enough for any player.

“People talk about this time of year and having ‘nothing to play for’. I don’t buy into that talk. They talk about complacency but it is not mentioned in November or February when you may be on a bad run.

“It is always there and it is a possibility, but as long as I am a manager, we will go out, prepare right and try and win every game we are involved in.

“As a professional footballer, there are always goals and targets to reach. There are three games to go, so try and get those wins and at the same time improve your own CV. Can you score goals, make assists or keep clean-sheets? If you can it all adds up for your career. “
