Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that his side could have between 10-15 points more to show for their efforts this season – but we have dropped too many points when we have been on top in games or surrendered a lead.
A stoppage time equaliser from Matty Done cancelled out Charlie Kirk 90th minute opener at the Alexandra Stadium.
Artell says that that haul of dropped points have cost his side the chance to really challenge at the top end of the table, but we wants his players to learn from those mistakes and take the real positives into next season.
The Alex boss told us: “We didn’t deserve to win on Saturday because I thought it was a game of poor quality from both sides, but in reality we dropped two points. We should have seen the game through.
“We didn’t deserve the three points but it has happened too many times this season when we did deserve to win the game. We were three up at Rochdale, we deserved to win at Ipswich and it was a travesty we lost at Swindon. Sunderland and Gillingham at home when we were dominant.
“They all examples of when we dropped points when we shouldn’t have and there will be more.
He added: “Those 10-15 points, that’s the difference. That is what we have to learn from next season and work on taking it into the next one. We are still evolving and it’s our first year back in League One after four years and all that but as a manager, you are always after more and improvement and that is what we are striving for.”
