"Evans' Application Was Commendable"

12 April 2021

David Artell admitted that there were not many positives to take from Saturday’s 6-0 defeat to Oxford United but he was pleased with the attitude of Antony Evans when he came on as a 53rd minute substitute.

The Alex boss told us that Evans genuinely showed intent to try and make an impact and press his claim to get into the team going forward. The on loan SC Paderborn 07 midfielder has made nine appearances for the Alex since signing in January but only two of them have been starts against Peterborough United and Blackpool.

The 22-year-old former Everton trainee will now be hoping he did enough in the second half against Oxford United to get another opportunity.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Antony came on and ran around.

“He tried to have an impact and had that intent. I wish more of them had shown his desire to get on the ball and applied themselves like he did.

“His work ethic was good in difficult circumstances and he deserves credit for that. His attitude was commendable and that is what you want to see as a manager.”
