Charlton Will Be Favourites But We Can Cause Upset If We Play To Our Levels

Alex head to the capital hoping to dent Charlton's play-off hopes

David Artell says his Crewe Alexandra players should relish playing at Charlton’s Valley Stadium this evening. Crewe have a re-arranged fixture with the Addicks this evening after our original date was postponed due to International call-ups back in March.

Nigel Adkins’ side succeeded Lee Bowyer as boss just before our first scheduled fixture and the former Hull, Sheffield United, Scunthorpe and Southampton boss has helped them mount a push for a play-off spot. They are currently 8th in the table, just two points behind Portsmouth and Blackpool in the last play-off position.

Talking ahead of tonight’s fixture, Artell told us: “Charlton are a good team with a really good manager. They will be doing everything they can to get in the play-offs and we know how tough it is against the bigger clubs in this league.

“Saying that we have had some good results against a few of them, and have put on some good performances. We maybe lost by the odd goal, like we did at Ipswich and Hull City when we didn’t deserve to lose.

“Charlton are a club steeped in history and now they have a relatively new manager, new owners and things are heading in the right direction for them. They will be favourites but little old Crewe will roll into London and try and give a good account of ourselves again.

“We have to be nipping at their heals and have got to play well to try and hurt them when we can. If we can do that on a great stage then we have every chance of getting a positive result. “
