David Artell says that his players are capable of switching tactically after demonstrating it to great effect against Portsmouth on Tuesday evening. The Alex boss made six changes to the side that lost 6-0 to Oxford United and he has told the club’s official website that the team will continue to be picked to try and win games.
Rio Adebisi is certainly out after suffering a bout of delayed concussion on Tuesday evening so that has opened a door for another and midfielder Ryan Wintle will be assessed in today’s final session to see if he can declare himself available for selection after missing the draw with Portsmouth with a slight groin injury.
Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wigan Athletic, Artell said: “We weigh up the options for every game and we pick a team and formation that we feel gives us the best chance of getting a result.
“We do that every week for every game and it will be the same tomorrow.
“We played a different way against Portsmouth for various reasons. The difference was that we worked hard and ran about. They tried their best and when they do that then we help them all day long.
He added: “It was a cagey game against Portsmouth but we also had some good chances, as did Portsmouth.
“I thought we got them on the hop with the way we played. They wanted to come and squeeze us and pressurise us but we combated that and it gave us a bit of an advantage tactically.”
