Artell: "Tactically We Were Spot On"

6 April 2021

David Artell felt that his Crewe Alexandra side got their tactics spot on after they deserved secured a 2-0 win at MK Dons. Two goals from Mikael Mandron in the opening 20 minutes of the match secured all three points for the Railwaymen and the only disappointment for Artell was that his side didn’t add more goals to that early tally.

The Alex boss said that the result should have been more comfortable than it was but the Alex were also handed an almighty let-off when the experienced Cameron Jerome hit the foot of the post after being forced wide by Will Jaaskelainen.

Artell told the club’s official website: “We had a game plan and tactically I thought we got it spot on. We were terrific in and out of possession and we thought that they would have more of the ball but that we could set-up and score goals when we were out of possession. That is how it panned out and the players deserved the credit for that.

“It is all well and good us telling them what to do but they have to execute it. They have to implement that plan and there is no point asking them to do something if they are not good enough to do it and can’t do it. The players did terrific and they deserve the plaudits.

He added: “MK Dons and ourselves are the top two weeks for teams completed in the division I think and that is how it panned out again. You know that you have to work hard when you play MK Dons because they move the ball really well and it was no different. We worked hard and thoroughly deserved to win the game.”
