Boss says players are used to League One and have to finish the season as strongly as possible
David Artell says that the demands of this season and the fact that we have stepped up a level will not be used as an excuse.
The Alex boss admits that we have experienced an ‘inconsistent month’ in League One and although it has been a testing campaign with Covid restrictions and greater fixture demands in a shorter space of time, Artell will not allow that as an excuse.
The Alex boss says that everyone is in the same boat and has had to endure the demands put on clubs.
David told the club’s official website: “I don’t think we can use the amount of games in a shorter space of time as an excuse. There may be foundation in that one or two may have found it more difficult to play Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday in a higher league and against tougher opponents, but that is the job.
“There are not many who have suffered because of that. Yes, it has been tough, mentally and physically but that is the job and you have to adjust.
“Everyone has been in the same boat and you have to get on with it. We have had a poor month for us in terms of the standards we had set earlier in the season.
The boss added: “We want to finish as strong as possible and finish as high as possible. We want to get up the league and have five games to do that.”
