"We Know The Threats Charlton Pose"

11 September 2020

Boss says Lee Bowyer's side will pose stiff first test to life in League One

David Artell says he is fully aware of the threat posed by Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic side.

Crewe open their League One campaign against the Addicks, who have our former loanee forward Chuks Aneke in their squad.

Charlton Athletic will be aiming to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt after being relegated from the second tier after finishing a point behind Barnsley.

Ahead of the league opener, sadly behind closed doors, the Alex boss said: “We are aware of the way Charlton like to play. They like to play football the right way, so I am looking forward to a good game.

“We saw them against Swindon last week and have seen some of their pre-season games and although personnel may change, we have done our work on Charlton and hopefully we can expose one or two weaknesses.

“Of course in the pre-season and the early cup games, managers will try new things out as well and I am sure Lee (Bowyer) will be no different.

“As always though, we have done our work on Charlton and highlighted their threats, but we have to concentrate on ourselves and what we need to do to try and hurt them. It should be a good game of football and one we are all looking forward to.

“All I can do is pick the best team I can to give us the best chance of winning the game.”
