David Artell has maintained that the club’s opening two performances against Charlton Athletic and Hull City have only reinforced the belief in his squad.
Crewe have narrowly lost both games to two clubs who were in the Championship only a few months ago and the manner of the performances have only enhanced the belief that we can compete at League One level.
Artell noted the difference between half-time and before the game at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday.
The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I told the players after the Hull City game that the belief is growing. I sensed before the game that there were those who believed that we could win there and then after the way we played in the first half there was a real shift in them. They really believed that they could win it!
“That is why they were so disappointed to lose it. They couldn’t believe we didn’t get anything out of it and it was a learning curve for them.
“They have to have that unshakeable belief on the Thursday going into the weekend. I think they look at it now and think we are a good team and we can match these teams.
“I think maybe some of them thought, oh it is Hull, they were in the Premier League not so long ago, and the Championship last season and it’s a big stadium and all that, but it isn’t like that.
“They are in League One like us and we went there and more than matched them. The belief is coming and it should because we have good players and are a good team.
He added: “They had that unshakeable belief in League Two, that we were not going to lose many and we need to develop that now in the division above.”
