Artell: "We Have To Lick Our Wounds And Go Again"

14 September 2020

Despite losing our opening game of the League One season to Charlton Athletic, David Artell says that his Alex side can take ‘heart from the performance.'

Crewe were beaten by two first half goals from the Addicks and although Crewe rallied and hit the woodwork through new signing Mikael Mandron, we just couldn’t find that goal that may have changed the complexion of the result.

Speaking after the 2-0 home defeat to Lee Bowyer’s side, Artell told crewealex.net: “We got ourselves into some great positions but didn’t do enough to really test their goalkeeper (Ben Amos) enough.

“To play like we did though gives us some comfort. The performance gives us heart because we were up against a good side, who have some real good players.

“You have to credit Charlton they were ruthless and we weren’t. They consolidated and made sure they saw the game out but I just felt we deserved a bit better than a 2-0 defeat.

“We have to lick our wounds and go again up at Hull.

“It is a results based business and we are here to win games of football and not to play well and lose. We want to be winners and that means being more ruthless in both boxes.”
