Boss Says Trip To Bolton Is Just The Tonic

7 September 2020

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell is pleased that there is an immediate chance to bounce back from our opening day defeat to Lincoln City in the League Cup. The Alex narrowly lost 2-1 to the Imps at the Alexandra Stadium and Artell says that we have to learn from the second half performance and take that into tomorrow night’s Checkatrade Trophy group tie at Bolton.

Ahead of or trip to the University of Bolton Stadium, Artell told the club’s official website: “We have our first league game on Saturday but we have a game tomorrow night first. There is no disguising the fact that Saturday is probably more important to the football club but going to Bolton, with their fantastic stadium is a game to look forward to.

“There are a good side and they didn’t have a favourable result on Saturday like us, so Ian (Evatt) and the Bolton players will want to win the game as much as we do.

“It is up to us to go there and show that we are a good side as well. It is a good pitch and two decent teams, so it should be a good game of football.

“The prize money makes things interesting for a lot of the smaller clubs. It is a nice little tickle if you can win them and it comes in handy. The ultimate prize is a trip to Wembley but we will also use these games to try things out and this will be no different.”
