Artell: "Any Success Will Be Built On Squad Strength"

28 September 2020

David Artell believes that any club the success enjoys this season will be built on the foundation of a strong squad.

With more demands being placed on players in regards to the congestion of fixtures, Artell says he will need numbers like never before and says that our promotion last season was formed on the back of those out of the team pushing for a place.

Crewe were top of League Two when the league was cancelled due to the global pandemic. The Railwaymen finished runner-up to Swindon after the season was decided by points per game.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Anyone who gets the chance to play against Newcastle (Under-21s) in the Checkatrade Trophy has the opportunity to impress. That is what is there for them. They need to play well and put in a performance and then ask questions of us when we come to deciding the team and squad for Oxford on Saturday.

“Last year, our success wasn’t just built on the 11 starting the game, it was the 12-24 pushing them every week, trying to get in the team.

“It is a great opportunity for them to push on and challenge for a place. It is as simple as that for those involved tomorrow night."
