I’d like to start this message by once again thanking all of our fans for their messages of support over the last few months. It has been a very strange but very busy summer at the Football Club and the backing of our supporters during these challenging times has certainly kept morale high at the Alexandra Stadium.
I had hoped that when penning this letter, we would be looking for forward to reopening the Alexandra Stadium to supporters. Unfortunately following the Government announcements on Tuesday, the return of fans has now been paused.
This is obviously incredibly disappointing news for the club and supporters alike. A matchday behind closed doors is not the same in any way and there had been a lot of hard work put in behind the scenes to prepare the Alexandra Stadium for the safe return of supporters. This work culminated in the club been given the green light to host a pilot game, so we were all devasted when this was pulled yesterday.
That said, the fact that we have been given the all clear to accommodate supporters in a safe way is telling, so we will continue to be pushing for supporters to return to the Alexandra Stadium as soon as possible.
I’m sure you can understand that this situation has been taken out of our control, but at the same time we want nothing more than for supporters to return safely to games and hopefully this will be soon.
We will continue to work with our colleagues at the EFL who are in regular contact with the DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) and in the meantime we would just ask for your patience in this fluid situation.
I hope to bring you further information as we get updates from the relevant authorities and in the meantime on behalf of David, Kenny, the players and my fellow Directors we would like to thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you all very soon.
