Boss says wrong to get swallowed up by formation talk when you are beaten by a superior side.
David Artell says that the ‘devil is in the detail’ after his Crewe Alexandra side struggled to impose themselves on Blackpool and Sunderland in the last week. Crewe have collected a point thanks to a draw against Blackpool last weekend but we were second best against an impressive Sunderland side on Tuesday and the Alex boss says that little tweaks are needed.
The Alex boss explained to the club’s official website: “People can talk about formations or systems but I tend to think that the devil is in the detail.
“We just have to tweak one or two things and not get carried away with formations too much. If you take the performance at Hull with the one at Sunderland then they were totally different. It was the same result in the end but Hull didn’t have anywhere like the same number of chances that Sunderland had and it was exactly the same formation.
“It is easy to say it could be the formation but sometimes you have to hold your hand up and acknowledge that the opposition are very good. They moved us around and we had to do a lot of work without the ball. They ground us down in that first half if you like to score the only goal of the game.
“We are always learning and you can still dominate the game without the ball. You can control the game and win the game without always having the possession. I think the MK Dons result proved that.”
