David Artell says that the Football Club have done everything within their means to protect players and staff this week.
Crewe Alexandra were hit with a small outbreak of Coronavirus in the camp, with four players and the club doctor all testing positive.
The club staff and players were all tested earlier in the week and were permitted to resume in our bubble once those who tested positive self-isolated at home.
Artell told the club’s official website: “We had to accept what happened on Saturday and everyone in football has to accept that it may happen again. I don’t think we will be the first or the last. Our timing was terrible and maybe we will be the only ones to have a game called off on a Saturday but I think the right judgement was made.
“I have seen that the England Under-19 game against Scotland Under-19s was called off at half-time because a coach discovered that he was positive. It is something new that we are all having to deal with.
“I am sure there will be other occasions when games will be called off, perhaps not on a match day or at half-time but it is inevitable because this virus is highly infectious and a lot of people are asymptomatic.
“We have followed all the procedures to the book and our training ground is very stringent and strict on what we can and cannot do. I was as honest I could have been with Karl (Robinson) and the people at Oxford and I didn’t think I, personally did everything wrong. We were all in a no-win situation.
“The right decision was made and we have moved on and prepared for Wigan.
He added: “We have re-scheduled the Oxford game as quickly as we possibly could and I am sure that me and Karl will have a chat on Tuesday night. He was absolutely fine and I completely understood and accepted his stance.”
