Crewe Alexandra’s testing start to the season will continue against Wigan Athletic this weekend according to David Artell.
The Alex would have played the three sides relegated from the Championship this summer and then we travel to Oxford for our re-arranged fixture the following Tuesday.
Wigan Athletic were only relegated to League One after a points deduction for entering administration and they have had to endure a period of uncertainty and adversity.
Ahead of our home fixture, David told the club’s official website: “I went to watch Wigan in mid-week and they went from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 and have good players.
“They were a mid-table Championship side before the points’ deduction and their relegation was nothing to do with how they performed over the season.
“They have had a tough time of things off the pitch but they have a manager who has come in and galvanised the club again. John (Sheridan) is a vastly experienced manager and Wigan are still a big club for League One.
“Hopefully, they will be okay and we wish them well at 5pm on Saturday after we have three points. That is the way it should be.
He added: “We have had a tough start in terms of the fixtures but we have made a fairly decent start. It has been challenging but we are now back at home and we will be trying our best to get three points again.”
