Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell was delighted that Tom Lowery managed to get valuable game time against Newcastle United Under-21s on Tuesday evening. Lowery completed 70 minutes during our 1-0 win in the Checkatrade Trophy as he builds up to fulfilling his first 90 minutes since January.
Lowery has made a full recovery from his hernia problem - but the boss says everyone will remain cautious in their approach with him.
David told crewealex.net: “Tom really hasn’t had much of a pre-season so he is playing catch up a bit with his fitness. We will continue to push him but it is also important that we act cautiously as well.
“We don’t want to create him any problems further down the line. It was important to give him game time and work his body in a competitive game and he came through fine. It was a real positive.
“It is about easing him back in and Liam (Anderson) (Sports Scientist) is a terrific guy. He is very knowledgeable and he will know what he needs at what time. I’m sure he and Owen (Clarke) will get it right. “
