Artell: "Away Win At Doncaster Didn't Surprise Us"

26 October 2020

Boss believes his Crewe side had 'not been far off' showing that we could beat one of the top sides in this division.

David Artell has told the club’s official website that Saturday’s away win at Doncaster Rovers should not have been totally unexpected. The Alex collected their first away points of the season but in fairness had only faced Hull City and Sunderland in their other two away matches in League One.

Crewe narrowly lost those games 1-0 with Artell saying that only Sunderland have been superior to his side this season.

Artell has told the club’s official website: “Any win is a good win and Saturday was no different. At the end of the day it is only three points. You don’t get any extra for beating a good team away from home. It is the same when you don’t play well and win, so its three points on the board and we have to quickly move on to Lincoln.

“Before the game on Saturday, it never dawned on me that we had not got an away point and then I remembered that we had played Hull and Sunderland! It looked like a shocking stat but we had to take it in context because we had two tough away games and deserved something from the Hull game.

“There wasn’t any pressure on us and I really didn’t think we have been miles away so it didn’t come as a surprise to me that the players performed like they did at Doncaster to win the game.

“We did well enough to win it and if we can play like that then we have a chance of winning more games.”
