Harry Pickering believes that this Crewe Alexandra side are a match for anyone in League One if we play to our potential.
That was certainly the case against the current league leaders, Peterborough United, at the weekend when Pickering’s well struck free-kick put us into a deserved lead just before the half an hour mark.
His partner in crime down the left, Charlie Kirk, netted a well taken second ahead of the half-time break and Crewe went onto control the second period and protect a clean-sheet against the highest scorers in the division.
It was the result to match another high level of performance from the Alex and Pickering believes that it was coming.
The in-form left-back, who now has four goals for the season, told us: “The gaffer has been on to us, saying that we are a match for anyone in this league, if we are on it and play well. We believe that as well and I think it all came into place on Saturday.
“I think a result like that was coming because we have been putting in good performances but not quite got the right result. We haven’t been scoring enough goals and one or two mistakes led to a goal going in against us.
“It was important that we stuck together as a group when we weren’t getting the results we felt we deserved. It is a close knit group and we thought it was only a matter of time before it came together again.
“To do that against the team that are top of the league is even more pleasing, because we knew they had been flying and it was going to be a tough game.
He added: “Other than one or two performances this season, we have played well and probably deserve more points than we have, but we now have to take that winning streak into the Oxford game, which is going to be another tough game.
"They are in a false position in the table as well, so we know we will have to play as well as we have been doing in recent weeks to get something.”
