Artell: "Romance Of The FA Cup Is Still Very Much Alive"

Boss looking forward to tonight's FA Cup draw.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that the romance of the FA Cup is still very much alive after the first round produced a succession of upsets. A number of EFL clubs exited the competition to non-league sides over the FA Cup weekend and Artell was pleased with the professionalism of his side after they negotiated a tricky away tie at Bolton Wanderers.

The Alex boss told the club’s official website:  “The romance of the FA Cup is alive and you saw that with the results over the weekend. There were a few shocks and upsets and that is what makes it the best cup competition in the world for me.

“That’s why you have 25 lads from Chorley dancing around in the dressing room at the DW Stadium after coming back from 2-0 down to win at Wigan. That is the magic of the FA Cup.

“We had a banana skin at Bolton but avoided standing on it. It was a good thing that we played them twice and knew what they were about. We managed to score three goals in both of those games as well but we had to do a professional job to make sure we got through.

The boss added: “Now we look forward to a good draw. We will get our heads around it and then focus on tomorrow night.”
