Club Relief After Former Player Hunt Given All-Clear

13 November 2020

David Artell has told the club’s official website of his relief that our former player, Nicky Hunt, was given the all-clear after suffering a horrific head injury whilst playing for Darlington against Boston United on Tuesday evening.

The game was abandoned in the closing minutes after Hunt was knocked unconscious for over an hour before receiving hospital treatment. The 37-year-old was released in the early hours of Wednesday morning to rest and Artell revealed that he made contact with the popular defender. following the horrific incident.

David told crewealex.net: “I texted Nicky when I saw the news and it must have been around midnight after our own game. I just hoped he was okay and he came back to me and says that he felt sore but everything was fine. He had been given the all-clear and that’s the main thing.

“We had a bit of a laugh about him being able to get a game abandoned in the final few minutes when you are 2-0 down, especially against Greeny’s team  (Paul Green) but we all hope he is on the road to recovery.

“Darlington are a good club and had a great result at Swindon in the FA Cup. Nicky is a good guy and was a great pro with us and was really well liked, same as Greeny, and it is great to see that both of them are still in the game and playing in the National League North.”
