Artell On Shrewsbury Loss In Papa John's Trophy Group Decider

10 November 2020

David Artell gives his verdict as Crewe battle back from 2-0 down to lead but then lose.

Crewe Alexandra surrendered top spot in Group C of the EFL Trophy after seeing a 3-2 lead slip away in the final 15 minutes against Shrewsbury this evening. Two goals from Daniel Powell and a first for the club by the persistent Offrande Zanzala had seen Crewe turn around a 2-0 scoreline and place Crewe firmly in the driving seat with half an hour to go at Gresty Road.

Two further goals from Shilow Tracey though saw him complete his hat-trick and eventually saw Shrews confirmed as group winners as they ran out 4-3 winners after an end-to-end cup tie.

Following the loss of our final group game, Dave told the club's official website: "There were lots of goals and if you paid your tenner to watch it, you probably got value for money. There were some positives from the game. Daniel scored two goals and Regan was outstanding on debut. I thought it was a terrific performance from him.

"There were negatives as well, plenty of them if I am honest as well but some of them got 90 minutes who have not played at that level for a while.

"It was probably a game that neither team wanted and we would probably have flipped a coin to see who got the three points but we had to play it and whilst we won't gloss over it but we won't dwell on it either.

"I was looking for people to give me plenty of headaches. I got that from some but not from others. That is what you learn from this game."
