David Artell felt that his Crewe Alexandra side thoroughly deserved their 2-0 win over league leaders Peterborough.
The Alex boss was pleased that the result finally matched the performance against Darren Ferguson’s side as goals from Harry Pickering and Charlie Kirk saw us run out 2-0 winners.
Artell told the club’s official website: “Finally the result matched the performance. We have been threatening to do that for a few weeks now. We should have beaten Ipswich by three or four and the same with Gillingham but ended up losing 1-0.
“We have produced another top performance to beat the league leaders 2-0 and they have been scoring goals for fun and are a very good side.
“We had that real, attacking intent in the first half and then the defensive shape was excellent in the second half. I cannot remember them having too many chances. They had the long range effort that Will palmed out the shot from 30 yards and I don’t want to do them any disservice but I thought we defended well and limited their chances.
“We are not a soft touch. I think there is only three teams who have conceded less than us. The players deserve the credit. They take things on board. I can tell them into I’m blue in the face but they have to do it. They are a pleasure to work with and they are improving, progressing and developing with each training session and game.
“They are a terrific bunch and in the second half they kept their shape and worked their socks off and made sure we kept them out and got the three points. We deserved it.
He added: “Pixie has shown that he has that in his locker from a free-kick and when Charlie nicked it and went through, I thought he would score. He had one on the opening day of the season when he got it pinched off his toes and he said to me afterwards ‘I had more time last season’ and he has now got used to the division and he is an excellent player.”
