Crewe Alexandra midfielder, Callum Ainley, will undergo a scan later today on what the club fear is a serious hamstring injury.

The Alex youngster was forced off in the opening minutes of Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Cheltenham Town after aggravating his hamstring when lifting the ball over an opponent’s head.

Unfortunately, the former Academy graduate had to be replaced after just six minutes with Oli Finney taking his place in the Crewe midfield.

Crewe boss David Artell told the club’s official website: “Callum put the ball over the head of one of their players and pulled his hamstring.

“He will go for a scan later today to see the extent of the damage but it doesn’t look good. We think he will be out for a while but obviously we will know more when the scan results come back.”
