Boss Expects Resolution Over League In The Next Couple Of Weeks

13 May 2020

David Artell believes that the EFL and clubs will come to an agreement over the 2019/20 season within the next two weeks. The EFL board are set to meet today (Wednesday) with video calls taking place with League One and League Two clubs later this week.

The Crewe Alexandra manager believes that the matter will have to come to a head soon and in his opinion he would like to see positions decided on points average but the play-offs being fulfilled with a one-legged semi-final and final.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I am sure it is coming to a head and this is only my opinion but I would think we would have a decision coming in the next two weeks. When that is I don’t know, I don’t think anyone knows.

“The EFL will meet and then talk to clubs later in the week. I am sure they will then discuss the progress they have made going into the following week and come to a resolution. How that is going to go I don’t know.

“I know that the survival of football clubs has to be at the forefront of the talks. We don’t want clubs going out of business and have to do all we can to safeguard that. I know it is grave and pitiful but that is where we are.”
