"It Isn't A Burden To Be Top Of The League. That Is Where We Want To Be"

David Artell has told the club’s official website that being top of League Two is not a burden. The Railwaymen went top for the third time this season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Stevenage at the weekend and the Alex boss is determined to make sure we stay there.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Mansfield, Artell told the club’s official website: “Being top of the table is not a burden. It is something we should all embrace because that is where we want to be and where we want to finish.

“There is a culture in this country as a whole that we don’t want to be first, that there is something in being a gallant second. That is codswallop. I find that ridiculous.

“I don’t live by that and I want us to be winners. We are there on merit and it will be tough to stay there because there are some good teams up there with us, but we want to be top at the end of the season. That is where we want to be.

The boss added: “We are there at the minute and no one is getting carried away. There is still a long way to go but we are in a great position. The aim is now to stay there with 9 games left.”
