David Artell says that on loan Michael Nottingham’s recent performances here at Crewe Alexandra have placed him in a ‘great position’ regarding his future. The Blackpool defender has settled in wonderfully well since arriving in January and Crewe have only lost the one game with him in the side and that was in controversial circumstances at Plymouth.
Nottingham is out of contract in the summer and Artell told the supporters at last night’s forum that he has opened tentative talks with the 29-year-old centre half.
David said: “I have literally had a short conversation with Michael (about his future) in the corridor and that is me being honest.
“What I would say is that he has put himself in a great position with his performances. He is playing well, he is over 24 and he is out of contract and that is a great way of sorting out your future.
“We have had a brief chat and I’m sure we will have further conversation but how far that will go is anyone’s guess at the moment.
“Michael has settled in really well and he has been a terrific addition to the team and helping us to the top of the league. I would just say watch this space and keep your fingers crossed.”
