Artell: "Everyone Has To Be Sensible And Abide To The Advice Being Given"

20 March 2020

David Artell says it is imperative that everyone continues to take the necessary precautions to halt the spread of the coronavirus. The Crewe Alexandra boss says the club have been on top of things from the start because of the information received from our own club doctor before the virus really took hold in the United Kingdom. Crewe introduced a no handshake policy even before we travelled to Morecambe on 29th February.

Artell says his players have been told about personal hygiene and the doctor introduced strict guidelines in relation to social distancing when it came to sharing meals, the dressing rooms, the gym and medical rooms.

The Alex boss told the club’s official website: “We want everyone to stay fit and healthy. Of course, our players are fit and young and won’t be high on the risk list – but we do have backroom and administration staff who are older and they have to be our priority.

“We cannot take any risks and we haven’t. We have had measures in place for a number of weeks and we will continue to listen to the advice given by the government and our own club doctor. He has held several meeting with us and the staff and we know that common sense has to prevail.

“We know there has to be distancing and I would encourage everyone to do so until it is safer not to. It is probably going to get worse over the next few weeks but hopefully if the country abides to what we are being told then it will clear it and hopefully more quickly.

“No one really knows how long it will take and all we can do is remain calm and patient and sensible when it comes to the advice being given.”
