Boss: "Porter Will Once Again Be Setting The Standards"

8 July 2020

Artell delighted that his leading marksman has agreed new terms to help lead in League One.

David Artell has told the club’s official website of his delight in his leading marksman, Chris Porter, agreeing an initial one-year contract extension. Porter, 36, was the club’s top scorer again last season after netting 14 goals before the campaign was ended due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

The former Derby and Sheffield United forward has now netted 41 goals over his last three seasons with the Railwaymen and Artell is pleased that the vastly experienced front man will be a key member of the Alex dressing room again when we resume.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Chris has been with us for three seasons and he has been the top scorer for two of those. He is a terrific professional and although he has lost a couple of his mates in the dressing room, he will be again setting the good standards.

“The challenge for us is to try and get more goals out of him. I am sure he would have got 20 goals if he hadn’t missed those games at Christmas through injury and the season ending prematurely. I’m sure he would have reached that target.

“I am delighted that Chris has agreed to stay and it is a nice position to have the forwards we have here and with Offrande Zanzala also coming in.”
