Boss On Recruitment Objectives

8 July 2020

Boss says ideally he would like to add more new faces to his squad as we prepare for League One

David Artell admits that it is ‘hard to judge’ if recruitment has changed dramatically due to the coronavirus and the financial implications of that – but the Crewe Alexandra boss is still eager to add a few more few faces this summer.

The Alex boss has already moved quickly to secure the signing of the Accrington Stanley forward Offrande Zanzala and although pleased with his squad and the players he has been able to retain, Artell is still looking at other possible targets this summer.

Artell told the club’s official website: “If recruitment is going to be different is hard to judge at the minute, but I am told there will be more supply than demand as clubs readjust their finances.

“That may mean we could be in the market for some bargains and the transfer market may come towards us a bit more than it used to but all we can do is wait and see what happens.

“I am sure all clubs are going over the books and readjusting accordingly. I am not sure the full implications of what has happened and is happening has hit home yet but it will.

“I am pleased with the squad I have already but that doesn’t mean I don’t want another one, two or three players coming in. That would be ideal but I think we are in a good position.

He added: “We don’t have to rush and jump into anything. We can wait for really good ones and hopefully there will be even more affordable players out there for us.

“We can wait and see what happens once things become even clearer.”
