Artell: "Being A League One Club Is Bound To Make Us More Attractive To Players"

13 July 2020

David Artell feels that the club’s promotion to League One will only help him attract more players both permanently and on loan. Crewe Alexandra secured promotion on the back on their impressive points per game ratio and Artell believes that more players will be willing to come to Gresty Road for the challenge and a chance to develop.

Artell successfully signed the likes of Stephen Walker, Michael Nottingham and Chuma Anene on loan last season and all three played a significant part in helping the club return to the higher level.

The Crewe Alexandra boss told the club’s official website: “I think being a League One club helps us full stop, both loans and permanents.

“I also think that our club is unique in terms of how we go about our business. We don’t have a high turnover of players and we are not the bog standard football club.

“We also know that it can work against us because we cannot offer the same sort of money as others clubs, especially in League One. So we do lose out on players and loans but at the same time if people want to come and improve and develop then we are an attractive club in that sense.

The boss added: “And it doesn’t matter what age they are. We think of loan players, being 19 or 20, and if they good enough then we give them opportunities and when Paul Green first came here on loan, I’m sure he would say he became a better player after coming here.”
