Wintle's Character Will See Him Move On Quickly

14 January 2020

David Artell has backed Ryan Wintle to brush off any mistakes he may have made at the weekend at Swindon Town. With four centre-halves ruled out with injury, Wintle has been asked to play at centre-half for the team and has performed admirably in that position.

He uncharacteristically gave the ball away for the first goal when Rob Hunt’s shot from outside the box took a slight deflection off his head.

He was then unfortunately caught out by the problematic wind for the second goal. The conditions seemed to move the ball away from him at the crucial moment and that allowed Jerry Yates to get in behind him and finish well for 2-1.

Artell says that Wintle has the character and temperament to brush that off and go again against Cheltenham this weekend.

He said: “Ryan may have made a couple of mistakes but he understands that and he has the character and temperament to move on quickly from that.

“He won’t let that have a negative effect on him. He is only playing there as a necessity and he does a good job for the team.

“We are working hard to resolve that issue and help Ryan he knows that.

He added: “Ryan has to play differently and think differently there but he is a brilliant lad and very good player so he just get on with it.”
