Crewe Lose Rio Adebisi With Foot Infection

15 January 2020

Rio Adebisi is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an infection in his ankle. The left-back who has broken through to first team level this season is on a dosage of antibiotics and it is hoped that the Academy graduate will not be out for too long.

Adebisi made an impressive debut against Aston Villa in the League Cup and he has not made four first team appearances.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell told the club’s official website: “Rio’s injury was a strange one. He rolled his ankle but was able to play on with no complaints.

“He then rang the physio at 5pm saying that his ankle had blown up. We had a look at it and sent him to a specialist who confirmed that he had an infection.

“He is on very strong antibiotics and we are hoping that it won’t keep him out for too long. That about sums up where we are at the moment when it comes to injuries to our defenders.

“The squad is a little bit stretched and we are doing everything we possibly can to bring one in.

“We are not particularly happy about the injury situation but it will be an opportunity for someone. It’s football and it happens. “
