David Artell described his team’s 2-0 win over Leyton Orient this evening as a ‘terrific result’. An early goal from Charlie Kirk and a late one from the winger on the other side, Daniel Powell gave Crewe a superb three points against a good footballing side.
Crewe’s performance ‘was not vintage’ by any stretch of the imagination but the gaffer was pleased with the way his side defended.
After the game, the manager told us: “I have had less stressful nights and it wasn’t vintage Crewe but it is a sign of a good team that we have won the game when not playing as well as we can.
“It was a terrific result, a clean-sheet and three points. I thought we were defensively good and did the other side of the game really well. Off the ball we were terrific and we were dogged and determined all night.
“They asked a lot of questions, had some chances in the first half and had possession but we stood up to it and were men and I am pleased with that side of the game.
“Our fitness told in the end, Daniel’s goal at the end typified the performance. He was determined to get in there, showed great strength and showed a bit of quality at the end.
“People may say Crewe were lucky but football isn’t always like that. We have dug in and got the result and I am pleased with that.”
