Transfer window latest from the gaffer
David Artell says he is not surprised that his mobile phone hasn’t rung so far in the transfer window when it comes to offers for his own players. The Alex boss is a believer that the January window is always a slow burner and clubs are reluctant to do deals in the four week period, preferring to act more in the summer.
The Alex boss believes that potential movement from Championship clubs may spur the market into action and that any offers for his players may come more when approaching the deadline.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I have had no calls on my phone about any of our players, and I am not surprised because I’ve turned my phone off!
“In all seriousness though, it hasn’t surprised me, not at the minute. I think if anything was to happen it would be more likely at the end of the month.
“You hear bits and bobs of speculation but I think the common denominator will be the Championship clubs and how much they are prepared to spend. They have to be wary of financial fair play but there will be others chasing the promise land of the Premier League.
“The Premier League operates on a different level now but that is not to say they wouldn’t be prepared to buy players from the EFL and especially the Championship and if that happens then it could have a domino effect.
The boss added: “The Championship clubs have to be wary of the numbers because of FFP and much will depend on how much they have to spend.”
