Nottingham: "It Was A No-Brainer To Come Here"

New loan signing here to help Crewe maintain promotion push

New loan signing Michael Nottingham says it was a ‘no brainer’ to sign for Crewe Alexandra on loan until the end of the season. The Blackpool defender is hoping for more minutes on the pitch after being limited to just six appearances for the Seasiders this season.

Nottingham, 30, can operate at right-back or as a central defender and he is looking to help Crewe maintain their promotion push this season.

On completing his loan move, the former Salford man told us: “I am very happy to be here. When I knew that Crewe were interested then it was a no brainer really to come out and play some games. I am not getting any younger and I want to play as minutes as I can because I haven’t been involved too much at Blackpool this season.

“I heard that there was interest a couple of weeks ago but it didn’t really happen until a couple of days ago. I spoke with the manager (David Artell) and he outlined what the club was about, his philosophy and how ambitious the club are and I couldn’t wait to come really.

“I am comfortable at right-back or as a centre-half. I’ve played both positions during my career and I don’t mind where I play. I am happy to play wherever the manager wants me to play.

“I try to defend my own box as if my life depends on it and will try to get my head on the end of set-pieces as well. I’ve scored a few goals in my career and hopefully that can continue at Crewe.

“Crewe are renowned for playing the right way. They like to keep it on the ground and pass the ball and that suits me. They play attractive football and are one of the leading scorers in the league, so it is all just exciting and I cannot wait to get started.

Michael added: “Everyone has been really welcoming and it is a great bunch of lads. I got through 90 minutes on Wednesday before coming here and I’ve trained two days, so I am ready and available if the manager needs me.”
