Artell: "Hopefully Some Of That FA Cup Magic Can Be Sprinkled Over Gresty Road On Sunday "

2 January 2020

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that if his in-form side can play to their levels then there is no reason why we cannot cause an upset against Championship side Barnsley in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.

Crewe suffered a rare set-back against Salford City on Boxing Day but have bounced back in spectacular fashion to score seven goals in our last two outings against Scunthorpe and Carlisle United.

Crewe remain handily placed in third spot in League Two with our next league game away at leaders Swindon Town on 11th January – but all attention has now switched to this weekend’s intriguing FA Cup tie against the Tykes.

Artell told crewealex.net: “We have a Championship club to get past in the FA Cup and they are always tough against teams that are two leagues or a league above. We know what the level is because we have played Middlesbrough away in the Carabao Cup.

“We had to play Accrington of League One in the first round and we have also played the likes of Aston Villa and Burton Albion in cup competitions this season, so we know what to expect.

“If we play to our level and they have a little dip in theirs on the day, then anything can happen. That is what makes the FA Cup the best cup competition in the world. Hopefully we can play to our potential and some of that FA Cup magic is sprinkled over Gresty Road on Sunday and we can cause another upset.”
