David Artell says that the third round of the Emirates FA Cup is always a special occasion to be involved in. Crewe Alexandra are participating in the third round against Barnsley this Sunday for the first time since January 2009 and Artell is hoping that the magic of the oldest competition in the world will be a great leveller at Gresty Road.
Ahead of this Sunday’s FA Cup encounter, the Alex boss told the club’s official website: “The FA Cup is a one off game and we will give it everything we have.
“Barnsley are two leagues higher than us but we have beaten a team from the Championship earlier in the season. That was away from home and we made some changes and so did they.
“It is a game to look forward to. I have played in a few third round games and there is a little tingle there because it is different from a league game.
“The FA Cup is littered with upsets and players scoring memorable goals. Only the FA Cup has Ronnie Radford scoring that goal and having a Jack Russell and everyone else running after him. That is what makes it the best Cup competition in the world.
“The 3rd round is a special date in the calendar and in the FA Cup you never know. It is important to have that crowd with you and make it that atmosphere where an upset can be possible. Sometimes that magic rubs off on you.”
