'Ports Return Could Not Be Better Timed'

14 February 2020

Boss says he has wrapped veteran striker in a sheet of ice this week!

Chuma Anene remains a doubt for this weekend’s top of the table encounter at Plymouth Argyle after he suffered some swelling around his knee after being forced off against Oldham Athletic.

Anene has scored 9 goals this season and came in for leading scorer Chris Porter at just the right time.

Porter recovered from his hamstring injury to replace Anene against Oldham and in his first start since early December, the veteran striker scored a brace in a 2-1 win over Crawley Town in mid-week.

Porter’s return could not have been better timed and boss David Artell joked that they have wrapped him in ice rather than cotton wool this week!

Ahead of 2nd vs 4th in League Two, Artell said: “We have had to put Chris in ice this week rather than cotton wool but he is fine.

“Chuma has had some swelling behind his knee, so we will have to see how he is. He has been carrying a knock for the last couple of weeks, so he has done magnificently to get through the games for us.

“Chris’ return is well timed. You always rely on your strikers to get goals and both of them have. We will have to manage both of them correctly over the remaining 14 games, so we get the best out of them physically.”
