'Finney Is Proving To Be A Real Asset For Us'

Boss on Finney's impressive goals to games ratio.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that his goalscoring midfielder Oli Finney is ‘coming along just nicely’ as his thumping winner at Walsall last Saturday took his impressive tally to 6 goals for the season.

The 22-year-old attack minded midfielder has in fact scored six goals in just 16 first team starts and Artell says that his goals and the danger he poses around the opposition penalty area is keeping him in his starting XI.

David Artell told the club’s official website: “We always knew that Oli had goals in him and his ratio to games is very good for someone who has made that step up to first-team football.

“We had to be patient with him and he has taken him a bit of time to come through compared to some of the others of his age and younger but he is coming along just nicely.

“He is proving to be a real asset for us with his goals and he knows that he has to keep scoring them and creating them to stay in the team.”

The boss also revealed that the Staffordshire-born midfielder tweaked his groin when scoring that splendid winner at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday but that he has a good chance of being fit for the home game against Oldham this weekend.
