Boss pleased with progress being made in numbers but he challenges his side to keep even more clean-sheets in the run-in.
David Artell says that the club’s improving defensive record should continue to be a source of pride. The Alex manager is keen for his team to hit the summer target that they set themselves in terms of goals conceded and he is pleased that they remain firmly on course to hit it with 12 games left.
Crewe have conceded 40 goals from their league games so far and the Alex manager says the target of keeping more clean-sheets is there for them.
David told crewealex.net: “The real value in any defender is their consistency.
“We had targets set in the summer and we are not far off that at this stage. We can improve on it and the clean-sheet on Saturday was overdue.
“We have to make those clean-sheets the norm. It has to become a nice habit to have and our goals conceded column has to become a source of pride like the fact that we are one of the top scorers in the division.
“They have improved and we have had to chop and change things around a bit, at times, due to injuries, especially at centre-half, but we asked them to improve their numbers and they have.”
