Boss: "I Felt We Would Score Again"

12 February 2020

Boss hails his comeback Kings...

David Artell says he continued to believe that his Crewe Alexandra side would strike late on again to win the game against Crawley Town. Just as we were entering injury-time, Chris Porter, got himself in the right position yet again to head home an Owen Dale cross at the far post and seal another home win for the Railwaymen.

Crewe had been penned back to 1-1 with just over five minutes left when Porter was adjudged to have fouled in the box – but Artell says that our habit of scoring late goals always gives him belief that we can do it again!

Artell told the club’s official website: “When they got the penalty and scored it I thought right here we go. I think it was the strong wind that blew their lad over by the way, I thought it was a soft one and the referee was making sure he evened it up after he gave us one after what was a ridiculous challenge from their centre-half.

“It was 1-1 entering the last five minutes or so but I still believed we would score another. I had that feeling and the players keep on going. They never give up and settle for a point. We went for it again and we deserved the three points. We were the superior team on the night.

“I always have that belief with this group of players and I think the players and supporters believe it as well.

“In my eyes you are the leader of your own destiny and this team never knows when it is beaten. They keep going and going and they deserve great credit for that.”
