Artell Hails His Comeback Kings Again

1 February 2020

Following another second half fightback from his Crewe Alexandra side, David Artell said we were well worth the three points. Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Alex transformed themselves in the second half and deservedly collected all three points thanks to goals from Daniel Powell and Oli Finney.

Following the 2-1 win at the Bescot Stadium, Artell told the club’s official website: “I thought we were a lot better in the second half than the first but in the end, we thoroughly deserved to win the game. We were good value for the three points in the second half. We ran out worthy winners. We were in contol and had a couple of penalty appeals and chances to have scored more.

“We gave away a terrible goal and half time probably came at the right time for us. We didn’t rant and rave. As I’ve said, we are there to help them and give them instructions and those little details to improve us.

"We are in it together so if it doesn't work then it is a collective thing and we win, draw or lose together.

“It is not an easy place to come. Walsall worked hard and made things difficult in the first half. They tend to be all or nothing. They either win or lose, so to end up the right side of a win is terrific and full credit to the lads.

“I must give credit to the midfield three. They didn’t have as much as the ball as I or they would have wanted in the first half but full credit to them second half, they wrestled the initiative back in our favour.

“We have worked on Daniel Powell’s movement at corners, so it was good to see that work pay off. It doesn’t all the time, so it was nice to see it work today.

“When you are hot you are hot and he is very hot at the moment at the moment with his goals and long may that continue.

“It was a terrific finish from Oli and that is what he is in the team for. He is in the team to score goals and he made that finish look a lot easier than it was. His goal ratio is something like 6 goals in 12/13 starts or something like that. He has to be patient but his goals have seen him have his chance and it was a terrific goal.

He added: “I thought our game management was excellent. People think that is about playing the clock down but it isn’t. They didn’t have many chances in the second half and they certainly didn’t have a shot at our goal in the final 20 minutes and that is very pleasing.

"The fans were immense and I am pleased we got that win back on the road for them."
