Alex To Assess Powell & Chuma Ahead Of Crawley Fixture

10 February 2020

Crewe Alexandra will assess the injuries to Daniel Powell and Chuma Anene ahead of our mid-week home game against Crawley Town.

Powell did not feature at all after suffering a muscle injury in the warm-up ahead of the Oldham Athletic game. The on-loan Stephen Walker was a late inclusion in the forward line and he helped us to a deserved 2-1 win over the Latics.

Anene, who has hit 9 goals this season, was taken off a precautionary measure in the 58th minute, with the fit-again Chris Porter replacing him. His return could not have been better timed.

David Artell told the club’s official website: “Daniel had a bit of tweak at Walsall the week before but he was fine. He felt something again in the warm up against on Saturday and it was a little more serious, so we didn’t take a risk with him.

“It was the same with Chuma. He went down just after we scored the equaliser, so it was a question of taking every precaution and getting him off the pitch. We had options and Chris came back and got through unscathed.

“There are 15 games left and we don’t want to lose something for a considerable length of time if we can help it. This isn’t the time for playing through the pain barrier or trying to be a hero. “

Crewe will assess their forwards before deciding if they are fit enough to be involved against Crawley this weekend.
